Payroll Processing Plus is a local payroll service provider, specializing in small businesses with honesty and integrity. The company was founded in 2004 by Debbie Fekany, a CPA who had worked in corporate America for over fifteen years and had always had the desire to start her own business. When she decided that it was about time to make the transition, she researched opportunities for almost six months. Once Debbie decided that she would focus on payroll, she researched the industry, wrote her business plan and began to search for appropriate software. In order to have more guidance, she contacted the SBDC at UCF. Debbie says, “I used Eunice Choi as a resource to lay out my options as far as how to incorporate and all the steps involved in starting a business”.

Debbie opened Payroll Processing Plus and has been very happy with the progress of the company. The company found a niche with small business owners that want a personalized service at lower prices. While the vast majority of her competition is made up of national firms that provide non-personalized services, she has found that her customers are delighted to work with a local company that knows them by name. Not only is her service outstanding but her prices are typically below the national firms. Additionally, Debbie can easily adapt to each customer’s needs, since she knows the strengths and opportunities of owning and managing a small business.

Her own impressive career with various corporate companies gave her the ability to branch out in her personal endeavors. But Debbie says, “My only regret is that I did not do this ten years ago!” She also recommends that people who are contemplating starting a business, to contact the SBDC at UCF. Fekany says, “I was very happy with the information that I received from the SBDC at UCF. It saved me quite a bit of time and energy because they had already done the legwork for me. I just followed the forms on how to start a business! The SBDC at UCF has so many resources available to small businesses.”

Debbie sits on the Small Business Board of the Orlando Chamber of Commerce to share resources and help out other small business owners who are attempting her same feats.

She certainly sets an example with Payroll Processing Plus, which is now a fast growing business in the Orlando area, catering to local small businesses.
