Eastwood Animal Hospital

Dr.
Robert Taeubel, an experienced veterinarian, and his wife,
Isabelle, knew they had a clear vision of the veterinary
hospital they wanted to establish. However, neither of them had
experience operating an independent practice. With concerns
about location, demographics and financing for a new veterinary
practice, Dr. and Mrs. Taeubel contacted the Small Business
Development Center at the University of Central Florida (SBDC)
in April 2001.
After meeting the couple and discussing their business idea,
Pauline Davis, Certified Business Analyst at the SBDC,
recommended that the couple attend the SBDC’s “Small Business
Basics” seminar series to gain a better understanding of
operating a
business and the necessary steps to obtain financing. After
attending the seminars, the Taeubel’s were convinced they were
ready to move forward and decided to determine a location for
their new business.
With guidance from the SBDC, the Taeubel’s performed the
necessary demographic research to determine which area could
support the facility and allow for growth. With these criteria
in mind and the proper research, the Taeubel’s selected a
location. Following the location choice, the Taeubel’s prepared
a business plan and submitted it to Pauline for review. After
the plan was finalized with her assistance, it was presented to
Banco Popular, an SBA Preferred Lender, for financing. Banco
Popular approved the SBA loan and the Taeubel’s veterinary
practice became a reality.
Today, Eastwood Animal Hospital, located in Orlando, is a
high quality, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital. As for the
location choice, Dr. Taebuel’s insight and research paid off. As
the name suggests, Eastwood Animal Hospital is located in East
Orlando, an area whose population has tripled since 2003.
Celebrating their third anniversary, Eastwood Animal Hospital
has overcome obstacles including staffing issues and effective
marketing, as well as tremendous growth due to East Orlando’s
residential boom.
From an idea in 2001 to opening their doors in 2003, Dr. and
Mrs. Taeubel finally realized their dream. Their success is due
in part to the SBDC’s guidance and they are grateful for the
assistance and support provided by Pauline Davis. As their
business continues to develop and new challenges arise, the
Taeubel’s are comforted by the fact that the SBDC and Pauline
are always just a telephone call away.
