American Services Technology, Inc.

With 20 years of military service, Moses Harvin knew if he
started a company that serviced the government, he would be able
to understand and speak the “language.” He also knew that as a
disabled veteran and minority that his new business could
benefit from applying for a Small Business Association (SBA)
certification. In 1995, Moses and his wife, Emma, decided to
start their business and founded American Services Technology
Inc. (ASTI), a service contracting firm for government and
commercial industries.
Determined to get their business off the ground, the Harvin’s
immediately enrolled the services of the Small Business
Development Center (SBDC) at Brevard Community College (BBC) to
assist them with becoming an SBA 8(a) Certified and Service
Disabled Veteran Owned company. A year later, ASTI needed to
find a location and became the first company in the Florida/NASA
Business Incubation Center at BBC Titusville campus and the
second company to graduate from the center in 1998.
During the last decade, ASTI has continued to grow and the
Harvin’s have used the SBDC at BBC to guide them in expanding
their customer base to federal and state markets and GSA
scheduling. As President and CEO, Moses Harvin sees the SBDC at
BCC as a place businesses should always go for information,
stating, “It rounds you out. One always needs to review; it
helps business go deeper.”
Today, ASTI headquarters operates from a 10,000 square foot
facility at 1028 Harvin Way in Rockledge, Florida, the fastest
growing area in Brevard County. The company employs 120 people
and generates over $11 million in revenue. Providing logistics,
maintenance, construction, engineering, procurement, technical
and scientific services to government and commercial industries,
ASTI keeps an impressive client list, including the U.S. Air
Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Department of Energy,
Computer Sciences Raytheon, IAP World Services, and Lockheed
Martin.
“Business integrity” has been the motto of Moses and Emma
Harvin from the beginning. This motto is evident in the
community service they provide to Brevard County and the
numerous awards they have received, including: Supplier of the
Year, Florida Minority Supplier Development Council; Small
Business of the Year, National Minority Supplier Development
Council; and Entrepreneur of the Year, Ernst & Young. The
company has also been ranked among the 500 small businesses in
the country and among the 500 fastest growing private companies
in the U.S. by Inc. 500.
