ISM 3011 -- Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why is this course web-based? Answer: Offering the course over the internet with no in-class sit-time requirement is more convenient for many students and, for the subject matter of this course, can be as effective for learning as a conventional lecture class. This web-based format is especially effective for learning (by doing) email and internet skills.
2. Can I substitute ISM 3011 for ISM 4300? Answer: Contact the MIS Department Chairperson Dr. Paul Cheney paul.cheney@bus.ucf.edu for all the latest information on substitution of ISM 3011 for ISM 4300.
3. Can I substitute ISM 3011 for MAN 3504? Answer: "The policy is that I will allow any student regardless of catalog year to substitute ISM 3011 for MAN 3504." -- Dr. Paul Cheney, Chair of MIS Department, 11/3/2000 [Students will need to file a petition with the College of Business Office of Student Support to accomplish this substitution.]
4. When does the class meet? Answer: There is no in-class requirement for ISM 3011. All work is accomplished over the internet. See the ISM 3011 Home Page for information.
5. Can I share the bookstore materials with another student in the class? Answer: I don't see any reason why you cannot share materials (and save some money.) You will need exclusive access to the materials when you take the online tests, but each test will be available over a multi-day period, so you and your textbook partner (or partners) can use the textbooks at different times to take the tests.
6. How do I get help? Answer: See the Support Schedule on the ISM 3011 Home Page for the times that a graduate teaching assistant will be available in the Magruder Computer Lab to help ISM 3011 students with their assignments. And you may email the instructor, Dr. Leigh.
7. How do I check my grades? Answer: Grades are posted on the web site. See the home page for the link which will appear after the first test.
8. How are tests given? Answer: See the Course Calendar on the ISM 3011 Home Page for the days that the tests will be available. The tests are available for several days. See the syllabus for detailed instructions.
9. What if I forget to take a test? Answer: You receive a grade of zero for that test. There is no make-up test opportunity. See the syllabus, linked from the ISM 3011 Home Page, for details.
10. May I work in a study group? Answer: This is encouraged, but you must take your tests individually.
11. How do I find other students to work with me in a study group? Answer: The information that you supply on the class member information form will be made available to all class members in the first week of class; you can email other class members to form study groups. Also, use the email group to form a study group.
12. Do I turn in the work that the study guides direct me to do? Answer: No, the work in the study guides is to prepare you to take the tests; you do not turn it in. The only work that you submit is the tests.
