Accomplishments
|
|
Below is a
list of the Institute for Economic Competitiveness'
recent projects and accomplishments.
|
UCF
Medical School
|
|
The IEC developed
its analysis of the cost and economic impact of creating
a medical school in Orange County for the University in
Spring 2006. The information was used in successfully
securing necessary approvals from the Florida Board of
Governors, Florida Legislature and Governor Bush for
advancing the project in 2006. The IEC will continue to
provide economic analysis of the project throughout the
medical school’s development.
|
Life Science Road Map Project
|
|
The
IEC was chosen by the Florida High Technology Corridor
Council (FHTCC) to represent the Council in a statewide
Life Sciences project in partnership with Enterprise
Florida and Work Force Florida. The objective of this
study is to develop a Roadmap (a detailed action plan)
for the state and regions to connect with this rapidly
growing area of the national economy. With the
partners, the IEC played a key role in defining the
project and in selecting the Milken Institute as the
primary consultant.
|
Tracking Key Economic Indicators
|
|
From Fall 2004 to
2007, the IEC consistently
tracked various key economic indicators and maintained
historical data sets to be made available to the County,
researchers, and the general public through the world
wide web provided by the UCF College of Business
Administration.
|
Other Projects and Activities
|
|
Throughout the year
of 2006, the IEC provided various research reports and
analysis for other entities including the FHTCC. The
IEC annually collects, summarizes and reports high
technology employment data for the FHTCC. In addition,
the IEC developed and maintains the high technology
company listing for the corridor region. The IEC is
aggressively working to obtain other research projects
that enhance the County’s objective of making UCF one of
the nation’s top ten regional economic research
programs.
