CBA Spotlight: Randy I. Anderson
Department of Finance and Dr. P. Phillips School of Real Estate
Randy I. Anderson has been named the inaugural Howard Phillips Eminent Scholar Chair and will direct the research and education institute in the Dr. P. Phillips School of Real Estate.
Anderson has been active in the real estate business since 1991 as a researcher, owner, investor and strategist. In addition, he has published more than 50 articles, many in premier real estate journals, and serves as a co-editor of the Journal of Real Estate Portfolio Management and the Journal of Real Estate Literature. He holds a Ph.D. in finance from the University of Alabama.
Anderson is excited about his new job and thinks the Dr. P. Phillips School of Real Estate is in a position to become one of the best real estate programs in the nation. "I look forward to being a part of this program and intend to build it into a top 10 School of Real Estate within the next five years. Central Florida has a dynamic real estate market and UCF has already received tremendous support from the industry as evidenced by the generous gift from Dr. Phillips Inc. and the Central Florida Chapter of the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties," he said.
Nearly 200 students are either majoring or minoring in the undergraduate real estate program. Anderson offers the following advice to them: "Take your education seriously - it's your most important job right now. The intensity of your effort as a student will translate into your intensity as a real estate professional and the success that you will have in the industry," he said. "Also, listen, listen, listen! No matter how many times you read about deals and cycles and any real estate information, the best education comes from listening to industry veterans who have lived through the good times and the bad."
