CBA Spotlight: Sean Robb

Director
Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting

Sean Robb

Sean Robb has been named the new director of the Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting. A native of Stratford, Ontario, Dr. Robb has been with the college since 2005.

What convinced him to join UCF? For starters, he was impressed by the growing research reputation and the quality of both the Ph.D. program and the faculty in the Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting. Additionally, he feels the CBA is unique. "It combines all of the typical qualities of a very large business school with a degree of collegiality that is normally only found in much smaller programs," he said.

While he will be taking on additional duties as director, he will still work with students, and offers the following advice for those interested in majoring in accounting: "Develop a very disciplined approach to your school work and plan on working harder than you ever have in your life. Without exception, the most successful people in accounting are the hardest workers. Also, many students have a very narrow view of their future place in the business world. Keep an open mind with respect to your career options."

Further, he cautions those who wish to earn a CPA designation, "Becoming a CPA is a great place to start, but while working in public accounting can be an exceptionally lucrative and fulfilling career, it is not for everyone. One huge advantage of a CPA designation is that it gives you considerable flexibility in pursuing other career paths in the business world - it really does open a lot of doors to senior management positions in both the private and public sectors."

Dr. Robb looks forward to his new position. His main goals as director are to continue to build the reputation of the Kenneth G. Dixon School of Accounting and strengthen ties with its alumni. He enjoys working at UCF and has made many new friends along the way. "The faculty that I have the pleasure of working with at the Dixon School of Accounting are some of the nicest, hardest working people I have met anywhere. They are dedicated professionals. I really look forward to coming to work every day!" he said.
